Gavin's guide, on SPOT
10 spots · Los Angeles, United States
Los Angeles across multiple episodes spanning the whole life of FTD, from the early numbered seasons through the later ones and the undated stretches of 2021 to 2024. Much of it is Thai and Indian cooking held at full strength: crispy rice salad and Bangkok mall pasta at Night + Market, Punjabi barbecue on Fairfax, malai rigatoni at a Silver Lake sports bar, a butter chicken parm that has no business working. The older city shows up too, in a French dip counter open since 1908 and a deli cutting New York style heroes.

West Hollywood, Los Angeles · Sandwiches · $
Season 5, episode 7 of FTD ended a training session here with New York style deli sandwiches, which is the only sensible way to end a training session. Paulie James came up on the same Flushing heroes, so the accent on the bread reads familiar. Get The Paulie, and the chopped cheese if you are homesick.

#2
Fairfax, Los Angeles · Indian · $$
FTD filmed here in 2021 for the Punjabi barbecue, and the lamb burger came out of that visit as the thing everyone repeats back. He returned later to cook a one night pop-up menu in the same kitchen. That stretch of FTD never carried a settled season and episode, so the year is what holds.

#3
Highland Park, Los Angeles · Italian · $$
Season 7, episode 25 of FTD worked through Highland Park and Matt Molina sent out the seasonal crudo, which is where his cooking sits at its quietest and most precise. Let the wine shop next door pick the bottle. Sit at the counter if the dining room is already spoken for.

#4
Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles · Thai · $$$
Season 7, episode 17 of FTD landed on a Tuesday, which is the one day the kitchen converts to Thai Taco Tuesday, and the table ran on Scotty Boy bottles pulled off the natural wine list. That pairing is the whole argument for coming on a weeknight. Reserve early or accept the sidewalk.

Los Angeles, Los Angeles · Burgers · $
The 2024 visit from FTD was less drive-through window and more Mahendro family kitchen, home style Indian plates laid out beside a butter chicken parm that has no business working as well as it does. That footage turns up across more than one cut, none of it numbered cleanly, so the year is the honest marker. The griddled burgers are still why most people pull in.

#6
Santa Monica, Los Angeles · Mexican · $
This Santa Monica counter turns up in the 2023 Los Angeles stretch of FTD for straightforward street tacos, a plain stop in the middle of a much noisier itinerary. That footage ran as a tour special with no season or episode attached. Carne asada, carnitas, then chorizo with cheese, in that order.

#7
Silver Lake, Los Angeles · Indian · $$
FTD ran its alt pasta thread through Silver Lake in 2024 and this is where it got loudest: malai rigatoni in spiced tomato cream, saffron mac and cheese, a sports bar cooking Indian flavors into Italian shapes. He returned for the closing installment of that run. Those stops sit in a stretch that never carried firm numbers, so the year stands in.

#8
Chinatown, Los Angeles · Deli · $
FTD season 4, episode 9 went after American landmark food and this Chinatown counter handed over its French dip. Take the lamb, ask for it double dipped, and put the house mustard on before you think about it. The line moves faster than it looks.

#9
West Hollywood, Los Angeles · Thai · $$$
Kris Yenbamroong's crispy rice salad turns up in the 2023 Los Angeles stretch of FTD, fried rice broken apart with cured pork, lime and herbs. The footage does not make clear which of his two rooms the camera was in, so the year is as far as this honestly goes. Order it first at whichever one you pick.

#10
Silver Lake, Los Angeles · Thai · $$
The alt pasta thread on FTD came through in 2024 for Kris Yenbamroong's Bangkok mall pasta, Thai cooking routed through an Italian shape and landing somewhere neither tradition planned. He came back for the closing chapter of that same run. Those stops were never given firm season and episode numbers, so take the year.
