Bernal Heights had almost nowhere to sit down for dinner when Josey White and Kevin Cline opened The Front Porch in 2006, and twenty years on it still runs like a neighbourhood living room with fried chicken coming out of it. The kitchen goes further south than most of the city bothers to: shrimp and grits, crawfish hushpuppies, short ribs braised in Dr Pepper. Brunch is weekends only and books out.
