Super Cocina

City Heights, San Diego · Mexican · $

Comida casera is Mexican home cooking, the braises and sauces that take all morning and get better reheated, and Super Cocina has served it cafeteria-style on University Avenue since 1989. The family's roots are in Xalapa, Veracruz, but the rotation runs past 180 dishes from across the country: Puebla-style mole one day, a green Yucatan mole the next, Veracruz fish soup, pozole, pollo en cilantro. They hand you a spoon to taste before you commit, which is the whole point.
