Kamonegi

Fremont, Seattle · Japanese · $$$

The name comes from a Japanese saying about a duck turning up with a leek on its back, meaning luck that shows up pre-assembled, and Mutsuko Soma built a soba house around the idea in a small Fremont bungalow. The noodles are ni-hachi, eighty percent buckwheat to twenty percent wheat, cut by hand daily, and the tempura follows the season rather than the menu. Seats are few, so book, or take the counter and watch.
