Armandino Batali spent a full career as an engineer at Boeing before opening a salumeria in Pioneer Square in 1999 and teaching himself to cure the coppa and salami his family had made in Italy. The shop moved a few blocks to Occidental Avenue in 2018 and changed hands, but the recipes and the lunchtime line came with it. Regulars have treated the counter as a temple to cured meat for a quarter century, and nobody standing in that line has ever needed convincing.
