Sherman Harris fought at the Battle of the Bulge, moved to Palm Springs in 1953, and is credited with inventing the early bird dinner in 1954 while cooking at a local steak ranch, which may be the most Palm Springs achievement on record. He opened this in 1963, when the town supported three Jewish delis serving a mid century clientele that most local clubs and resorts would not admit. His children run it now, and the beef and latkes swaps the rye for two fried potato pancakes.
