Oysters Rockefeller were invented in this kitchen in 1889, named for the richest man in America because the green sauce was that rich, and the recipe has never left the family. Five generations of Alciatores have run the place since 1840, adding rooms until there were fifteen, including a Prohibition-era back parlor still called the Mystery Room. Ask for the tour between courses; waiters who have worked here for decades are the ones who give it.
