The po-boy got its name in 1929, when the Martin brothers fed striking streetcar workers for free and called them poor boys. The Domilise family has held this Uptown corner since 1918, and the counter still dresses Leidenheimer loaves to order while the gravy soaks through the crust. The order worth copying appears on no menu: fried shrimp with Swiss cheese and roast beef gravy poured over the top.
