The Mahendro family ran an Indian restaurant in Toronto before bringing father Pawan's cooking to Los Angeles in 2013, with sons Nakul and Arjun running the floor and the tone. The Fairfax location keeps his butter chicken and slow gravies exactly as serious as they need to be, then lets the kitchen play with chicken tikka poutine and a spiced lamb burger. That lamb burger has built a following well past Fairfax, and the room regularly turns itself over to guest chef pop-ups.
