Bette’s Oceanview Diner ran nearly forty years on Fourth Street before closing in early 2022, and rather than lose the room, a group of its own workers reopened it two months later as a cooperative they own outright. Darryl Kimble, who had cooked there for thirty seven years, came back to run the kitchen, and the menu barely shifted: the baked souffle pancake, the soft scrambled eggs, the pan-fried fish sandwich. Weekend lines form early, and the to-go window is the shortcut.
