The Monte Carlo is a Third Street dive of the older Koreatown kind, dark in the afternoon, cheap at any hour, and completely uninterested in impressing whoever wanders in. The sign out front does a lot of the work, a piece of old lettering that has outlasted most of the block around it. It is a room built for the long conversation, the one that gets honest somewhere around the third round.
