Privacy Policy

Effective May 24, 2026

We built SPOT for people who care where their food comes from. We figure you care where your data goes, too. Here it is, in plain terms.

01

Introduction

Welcome to SPOT (“we,” “our,” or “us”). SPOT is a mobile application that helps people discover, share, and save food spots around the world. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the SPOT mobile application and any related services (collectively, the “App”). Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the App.

02

Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

We collect information you provide directly to us, including:

  • ·Account registration details such as your name and email address
  • ·Profile information, including your profile photo, display handle, bio, city, and optional social media links (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and website URL)
  • ·Photos you upload when writing reviews or submitting food spots
  • ·Content you submit, such as food spot nominations, written reviews, ratings, dish votes, and curated guides
  • ·Curated lists of food spots you create and manage within the App
  • ·Private notes you attach to individual food spots for your own reference
  • ·Restaurant rankings you submit as part of community features
  • ·Links shared from third-party apps (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Google Maps) via our iOS Share Extension
  • ·Optional text you provide when nominating a spot ("Tell us why")

2.2 Information from social sign-in providers

If you choose to sign in using a third-party provider, we receive certain information from that provider, subject to the provider’s own privacy policy:

  • ·Apple Sign In: your name and email address (Apple may provide a private relay email address at your option)
  • ·Google Sign In: your name, email address, and profile picture (where offered)
  • ·Facebook Login: your name, email address, and profile picture (where offered)

We do not receive your social media passwords. We only request the minimum permissions necessary to create and maintain your SPOT account.

2.3 Information collected automatically

When you use the App, we may automatically collect:

  • ·Device information, such as your device platform (iOS or Android) and operating system version
  • ·Push notification tokens, when you grant permission to receive notifications. These are stored alongside your account to enable delivery of notifications relevant to your activity.
  • ·Usage data such as features used, content interactions (likes, follows, saves), and in-app activity

2.4 Location information

The App may request access to your device’s location to help you discover nearby food spots and to center the map view. Your precise location is processed on your device only and is never transmitted to or stored on our servers. You can enable or disable location access at any time in your device settings without affecting your ability to use other features of the App.

2.5 Contact list (Friends on SPOT)

With your permission, the App may access your device’s contact list to help you find friends who are already on SPOT or to invite people you know to join. We use contact information only to match against existing SPOT accounts or to facilitate an invitation. We do not store your contacts on our servers, and contact data is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.

03

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • ·Create and manage your account
  • ·Display food spots, reviews, and guides within the App
  • ·Process spot nominations you submit
  • ·Personalize your experience and show content relevant to your interests
  • ·Enable community features such as following other Spotters, sharing curated lists, and participating in community leaderboards
  • ·Help you find friends already on SPOT or invite contacts to join, when you grant access to your contact list
  • ·Send you push notifications about activity relevant to your account, such as new followers or replies, when you have granted notification permission
  • ·Communicate with you about your account or changes to our policies
  • ·Monitor and improve the performance and security of the App
  • ·Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

04

How We Share Your Information

4.1 With other users

Content you post publicly — such as your display name, handle, profile photo, nominated spots, reviews, guides, and curated lists you choose to share — is visible to other users of the App. Private place notes and unpublished lists are visible only to you.

4.2 With service providers

We share information with trusted third-party service providers that help us operate the App:

These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information and may only use it to perform services on our behalf.

4.3 Legal requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of SPOT, our users, or the public.

05

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App’s features. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.

Pending spot nominations stored locally on your device (via the iOS Share Extension before you open the App) are automatically cleared after they are synced to our servers or after 90 days, whichever comes first.

06

Your Rights and Choices

6.1 Account information

You may review and update your account information at any time within the App. You may delete your account at any time in Settings, or request deletion by contacting us at the email address below.

6.2 Location

You can enable or disable location access at any time through your device settings. Disabling location will prevent the map from centering on your position but will not affect your ability to use other features.

6.3 Push notifications

You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or within the App. Disabling notifications does not affect your ability to use any other features.

6.4 Contact list

You can enable or disable contact list access at any time through your device settings. We will only access your contacts when you explicitly initiate a friends search or invitation within the App.

6.5 California residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • ·Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose about you
  • ·Request deletion of your personal information
  • ·Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information)
  • ·Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at the email address below. We will respond within 45 days.

6.6 EEA and UK residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, port, or erase your personal data. You also have the right to restrict or object to certain processing of your data and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our legal basis for processing your personal data is your consent and the performance of the contract between us (your use of the App).

07

Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. These measures include encrypted data transmission (TLS), database-level row security policies, and hashed credential storage. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

08

Children's Privacy

SPOT is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

09

Third-Party Links and Content

The App may display links to third-party websites, videos, and social media content (e.g., TikTok, YouTube, Instagram). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before interacting with their content.

10

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective Date” at the top of this document. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email. Your continued use of the App after any change constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
